I’m not much of a story writer so I decided to share my photos with you all instead. Sarah (my volunteer partner) and I are having a great time! The other weekend we went to Ho Chi Minh City to check out the Cu Chi tunnels with some other gappers from the south – fun! It’s hard to believe we’ve been at our placement for nearly a month, time flies!

Big plans for Wagga’s Australia Day

Plans have been announced for a bigger and better Australia Day next year as nominations for the awards were thrown open last night.

Speaking at a mayoral reception, the chairman of Wagga’s Australia Day Committee Greg Conkey outlined two new events for 2012 – a free picnic at the Oasis to be held on January 25 and an evening of free live music to be tacked onto the Australia Day celebrations in Victory Memorial Gardens.

But it was the annual awards that took centre stage last night, with 2011 winners Ray King (citizen of the year) and Bridget Byrnes (young citizen of the year) spruiking the importance of the nomination process.

Seeing her Vietnamese students run around in ghost and witch costumes is a memory Annie Robinson will not forget.

The 19 year old spent five months teaching English to primary-school and college students through the Lattitude Global Volunteering program.

Living on a budget

I still cringe when I think about all the money I needlessly wasted at my placement. Not having a concept of the exchange rate got the better of me more times than I’d care to mention, as well as just generally being frivolous in the early days came back to bite me after a few months. So I thought I’d compile my top ten tips on how to not lose all your cash in ten days.
